How's Life?

Some people say, a typical Singaporean life consist of 5 components. In no particular order, they are namely

1. Eating
2. Sleeping
3. Lots of stress
4. HDB flats
5. Sometimes sex

Items 1 and 2 are self-explanatory, item 3 is the true representation and essence of being our island city dweller, often referred and possibly related to “Kiasu-ism” a colloquial terminology referring to not losing out. We are stressed about every thing, from education, from work and being in the front of any queue even if the cause is of inconsequence. Everything and anything can be a source to start a mad rush.

HDB flats adds much weight to the pressures we face, anything that is worth paying fortune through a lifetime only to eventually not own it even will in some way. Not so long ago, cars here were worth as much as a mini garage as elsewher (given that 1 of ours was well worth about 5 and possibly more in some neighbouring state). I was once told a joke by my lecturer during my under-graduate studies, if an average Singaporean car owner was asked “do you drive to work?” his response with some wit would probably be “No, I actually work to drive.” In fact, it's even a popular opening for a marriage proposal, significant like a rite of passage to apply for with your significant other. Laughs aside, paying off that perpetual loan seemed an inevitable for average people like me and maybe you.

Sex, have I raised a few eyebrows or lighted the curiosity spark? Nothing juicy about it certainly, problem lies with the lack of it. I read in an article sometime ago that revealed us Singaporeans do it almost as often as we pump petrol for our automobiles. Any other details please ask your parents or refer to “the making of you!” manual.

Life is beyond these mundane issues and material pursuits. It is an aggregate of the little details like colours to breath life into a painting. It brings meaning and purpose to our very existence....... Just an early Monday morning banter, have a good week ahead peeps.
